Three faculties. Eight programs. One coherent curriculum.
Every SIT student moves through a modular, interdisciplinary curriculum that blends lab work, field research, and startup projects — taught by a hybrid faculty of academics, industry practitioners, and visiting global scientists.
Where you’ll study.
SIT is organized as a small number of deep, well-equipped faculties — designed to encourage students and researchers to cross between disciplines.
Faculty of Applied Science
Modern biology, computation, and the experimental tools of biotechnology — taught with the rigor of a research university and the pragmatism of an industry lab.
- Department of Cell & Molecular Genetics
- Department of Biotechnology
- Department of Biodata & Artificial Intelligence
Faculty of Agrotechnology
Agricultural biotechnology, bioengineering, and pharmaceutical sciences — anchored in problems specific to West African agriculture and public health.
- Department of Agrotechnology & Bioengineering
- Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Faculty of Business Administration
The commercialization stack of biotechnology — finance, intellectual property, regulation, and science communication — for graduates who will run, fund, or scale life-science ventures.
- Department of Biotechnology Administration
- Department of Science Communication
Eight BSc degrees.
BSc Biotechnology
The flagship degree. Cellular, molecular, and microbial biotechnology with deep training in laboratory technique, scale-up, and product development.
BSc Cytology & Cancer Biology
The cellular basis of disease, with a special emphasis on cancers prevalent in African populations and the diagnostics needed to address them.
BSc Biodata & AI
Computational biology, biostatistics, and machine learning for genomics, drug discovery, and digital health.
BSc Bioengineering
Engineering principles applied to biological systems — bioreactors, biomaterials, biosensors, and bio-manufacturing.
BSc Agrotechnology
Crop science, plant biotechnology, soil microbiology, and smart-farming systems built for tropical agriculture.
BSc Pharmaceutical Sciences
Drug discovery, formulation, pharmacology, and natural-product chemistry — with research into Ghana’s medicinal plant heritage.
BSc Business Administration (Biotech)
The MBA mindset for bio-economy entrepreneurs: finance, IP, regulatory affairs, and scaling deep-tech ventures.
BSc Science Communication
Translating science for policymakers, journalists, and the public — with a specialty in health and bio-innovation reporting.
A shared core. A specialised path. A real portfolio.
Every SIT student — regardless of department — takes a shared core in scientific foundations, communication, and computation. It is what makes our graduates fluent across the bio-economy.
Specialisation deepens through years 2 and 3, taught in seminar-sized classes and aligned with active research. By Year 4, students complete a capstone of their choosing — a thesis, a startup, or an advanced rotation with one of our partner institutions.

SIT Professional & continuing education.
In addition to undergraduate degrees, SIT offers short, high-intensity certifications for professionals — tutors, lab technicians, biotech operators — and continuing professional development for educators, in partnership with the National Teacher Training Council.
Lab Technician Certification
An 8-week intensive in modern molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics technique.
Bio-Manufacturing Operator
Process science, GMP, and quality systems for the next generation of biomanufacturing in West Africa.
STEM Teacher CPD
Continual professional development for secondary-school STEM teachers, in partnership with the NTTC and the Ministry of Education.
