Support the Future of Science and Innovation in Ghana
Our Mission
The Sena Institute of Technology Foundation (SIT Foundation) is dedicated to advancing scientific research, innovation, and education in Ghana and across Africa. Our mission is to build the next generation of African scientists, strengthen the continent’s biotechnology capacity, and drive local solutions in health, agriculture, and the environment through research, workforce training, and technology development.
Why We Exist
Africa faces immense scientific and economic potential yet limited research infrastructure, funding, and training opportunities hold back progress. The SIT Foundation was created to bridge this gap by providing the resources and partnerships needed to empower young scientists, develop biotechnology industries, and foster innovation ecosystems that can transform communities.

Our Focus Areas
Research and Development (R&D)
SIT Foundation supports research and development within research-intensive institutions to advance novel solutions in biotechnology, genomics, bioengineering, and environmental sciences. Through strategic funding, infrastructure support, and collaborative partnerships, SITF aims to strengthen the capacity of African research institutions to conduct high-impact scientific discovery and innovation. Our goal is to help build sustainable centers of excellence where African scientists can contribute meaningfully to global scientific knowledge, develop transformative technologies and products, and drive solutions that address critical challenges in health, agriculture, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.
Capital & Infrastructure Development
SIT Foundation is committed to strengthening scientific infrastructure and expanding access to modern research equipment for African scientists, students, and innovators. SITF seeks to bridge the gap by developing shared research facilities, equipping laboratories with modern instrumentation, and creating accessible innovation spaces that support biotechnology, genomics, diagnostics, biodiversity research, and bioengineering research.
Workforce Development
SIT Foundation is committed to investing in workforce development and the training of local scientists in emerging technologies, innovation, and advanced scientific skills for careers in the life sciences and biotechnology industry. Through funding support for hands-on training programs, laboratory education, technical workshops, internships, and industry partnerships, SITF equips students and professionals with practical expertise in areas such as biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, diagnostics, bioengineering, and environmental sciences.
Scholarship & Exchange
SIT Foundation’s Scholarship and Exchange Programs are designed to expand access to scientific education, strengthen collaboration across Africa, and empower the next generation of innovators and researchers. Through scholarships, research fellowships, and academic exchange opportunities, SITF supports talented and financially disadvantaged students and scholars in gaining hands-on training, research experience, and exposure to global scientific networks.
Our Impact
Over the past decade, SITF and its partners have:
- Trained hundreds of students and educators in laboratory and field research.
- Conducted molecular biodiversity and public health studies across Ghana.
- Developed and biobanked clinical samples for disease genomics.
- Established Ecochest Biosciences, the first biotech company in Ghana’s Volta Region.
- Designed affordable, locally produced diagnostic kits and STEM learning tools.
