Support the Future of Science and Innovation in Ghana

Our Mission

The Sena Institute of Technology Foundation (SIT Foundation) is dedicated to advancing scientific research, innovation, and education in Ghana and across Africa. Our mission is to build the next generation of African scientists, strengthen the continent’s biotechnology capacity, and drive local solutions in health, agriculture, and the environment through research, workforce training, and technology development.

Why We Exist

Africa faces immense scientific and economic potential yet limited research infrastructure, funding, and training opportunities hold back progress. The SIT Foundation was created to bridge this gap by providing the resources and partnerships needed to empower young scientists, develop biotechnology industries, and foster innovation ecosystems that can transform communities.

Fundraising goal: $200,000.00

Our Focus Areas

Research and Development (R&D)

We support cutting-edge research in molecular biology, natural product drug discovery, agricultural biotechnology, and disease diagnostics. SIT researchers are leading studies on uterine fibroid genomics, antimicrobial drug discovery, plant biodiversity, and marine ecosystem genomics research with real-world health and environmental impact.

Diagnostics and Manufacturing

Through our incubated company, Ecochest Biosciences Ltd, SIT has become a pioneer in local manufacturing of diagnostic test kits. These include LAMP-based kits for mpox and infectious diseases, as well as veterinary and crop health diagnostic tools that safeguard farmers’ livelihoods. The Foundation supports R&D to scale these innovations and make biotechnology accessible to all.

Workforce Development

We believe that science must empower people. Our programs train university students, lecturers, and professionals across Ghana in modern laboratory techniques, molecular diagnostics, and computational biology. Through international exchange programs with Harvard University, the University of Chicago, and other global partners, SIT equips Ghanaian scientists from several universities with the tools to lead Africa’s next wave of innovation.

STEM Educational Kits

The SIT Foundation supports the design and production of STEM educational kits that make science engaging and practical for students at all levels. These kits teach DNA extraction, disease detection, and molecular principles sparking curiosity and innovation in classrooms and community labs across Ghana and Africa.

Africa Bio Initiative

The Africa Bio Initiative, championed by SIT, aims to build Africa’s biotechnology ecosystem through entrepreneurship, R&D investment, co-working laboratories, and manufacturing hubs. The initiative connects African researchers and diaspora scientists to create sustainable solutions in health, agriculture, and climate resilience.

Our Impact

Over the past decade, SIT and its partners have:

  • Trained hundreds of students and educators in laboratory and field research.
  • Conducted molecular biodiversity and public health studies across Ghana.
  • Developed and biobanked clinical samples for disease genomics.
  • Established Ecochest Biosciences, the first biotech company in Ghana’s Volta Region.
  • Designed affordable, locally produced diagnostic kits and STEM learning tools.
